The AMGTF Courses focus on teaching knowhow. The Level 1 course is a six-day program whereby participants learn the various aspects of teaching. Currently, most teachers acquire their teaching know how on the job or from their fellow golf pros with some teaching experience on ad hoc basis. AMGFT courses are structured, compact and comprehensive.
The course is intensive and exhaustive. And provides a firm foundation to begin or strengthen a teaching career.
Under this category, good fundamental understanding of the physics and biomechanics of the golf swing is a necessity. Lessons under this category include :-
The course goes through the psychology of learning as applied to sports. Unlike academic learning, learning a sport requires a different set of skills and understanding this enhances the effectiveness of teaching. This includes the psychology of learning, principle of teaching, professional etiquette, preparation and execution of lessons, various teaching positions, common faults and solutions.
In general, participants should expect eight hours of theory and practical workshop with the better part of time spent on the practice range plus playing 9 / 18 holes if time permits.
The course requires the participants to go through a series of tests, namely: -
1. Teaching Theory Test
2. Practical Teaching Test
3. Rules Test
4. Playing Ability Test
Men - 2 rounds of total gross score of 166 or less
Men (Age 50 and above) - 2 rounds of total gross score 170 or less
Ladies - 2 rounds of total gross score 170 or less
As this is a teacher's course, emphasis is given to teaching. The PAT is basically to ensure that teachers can play adequately, an indication of the depth of understanding of the golf swing. The requirement is not as stringent as that required on tour.
The course attempts to provide as strong a foundation as possible to start a teaching career given the limitation of time and resources. This is the beginning and certainly not the end of learning. AMGTF strongly believes that learning never ends and that excellence is an ideal goal.
For those who aspire to be better, the Intermediate Masters program is conducted once a year and a Masters program is also available.
